Now Dr. Ben Dome will come back to the stage and tell us about FAI surgery in adolescents. Thanks again. My disclosures again with the AOS. So by way of background, there are some theoretical concerns regarding FAI surgery in the adolescent population. One, their growth plates in some cases may be open, and if we do FAI surgery, we wonder if there could be recurrence. For another, they're young, and they've got a lot of life ahead of them. The incidence, however, of hip arthroscopy has been increasing in the adolescent population. And most analyses of hip arthroscopy to date on adolescents have been from single institutions and with modest sample sizes. So the purpose of this study was to report minimum two-year follow-up patient-reported outcomes and rates of achieving clinical benefits in adolescents following hip arthroscopy for FAI using a multi-center design and to determine the risk factors for revision surgery. Our hypothesis was that adolescents who underwent primary arthroscopy in the setting of FAI and a labral tear would experience improvements in their PROs, high satisfactions, and high rates of achievement of clinimetric outcomes. So data from two high-volume hip arthroscopy centers, the American Hip Institute and the Mayo Clinic, were pooled and retrospectively reviewed on adolescents, meaning 19 or less, who underwent primary arthroscopy between 08 and 19. Adolescents with a minimum two-year follow-up were included, and this included multiple patient-reported outcome scores. Exclusion criteria were tonus greater than 1, LCEA less than 18, and previous ipsilateral hip surgery or conditions. Pre-operative and post-operative radiographic data, MCID, past secondary surgeries and complications were reported, and a multivariate survival analysis for risk factors for secondary surgery was conducted. So a total of 278 hips in 249 patients were included. A high percentage were female, 75% female. The mean values for age, BMI, and follow-up were 16 for age, 22 for BMI, and 26 months for follow-up. 89% underwent labral repair, 81% femoroplasty, and 85% capsular closure. Improvement for all PROs was noted, with high patient satisfaction averaging 8.8. Achievement of MCID was 83% and 79.5% for the NAHS and IHOT 12, respectively. And achievement for the PASS was 68% for the Harris hip score and 73% for the non-arthritic hip score. We found low rates of revision arthroscopy of less than 6%, and CAM recurrence, importantly, was less than 2%. Again, an important question in patient groups, some of whom have open growth plates. Acetabular retroversion was found to be a risk factor for revision surgery in this group. So in conclusion, the results of this multicenter study demonstrated adolescents who underwent primary arthroscopy for FAI reported significant improvements in all PROs, with high rates of achievement of MCID and PASS, and high patient satisfaction at minimum 2-year follow-up. Strengths of the study included its multicenter design, and being one of the few studies that is multicenter with 2-year outcomes in adolescents, and the use of multiple PROs. Limitations, we did not assess the mental status of this vulnerable population. There's no control group, and as always, we should question the generalizability of results from one institution to another institution. Thank you very much, and greetings again from Chicago.
