STATEMENT OF NEED

A need for the Arthroscopy self-assessment activities has been identified based on multiple sources, including but not limited to:

  • Information gathered from Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA) education surveys, education course evaluations and data from previous self-assessment programs.
  • The American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS) Maintenance of Certification program evaluates a competent physician using the four components specified by the ABMS including Component 2: Evidence of Life-Long Learning and Self-Assessment which will be addressed through on-going, three-year cycles of 120 credits of Category 1 Orthopaedic or relevant Continuing Medical Education (CME) that includes a minimum of 20 CME credits of Self-Assessment Examinations (SAE).
  • CME required for licensure, hospital privileges, membership in professional societies providing educational and other support to foster optimal patient care provided by physicians, etc.
TARGET AUDIENCE
The primary target audience of the Arthroscopy Self-Assessment Program is Orthopaedic Surgeons and physicians in the field of arthroscopy who desire to improve their arthroscopic knowledge and skills.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of the Arthroscopy Self-Assessment Program activity, participants should be able to:

CONFLICT OF INTEREST DISCLOSURE STATEMENT
In accordance with the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) Standards for Commercial Support, (SCS 2.3) it is the policy of the Arthroscopy Association of North America that all planners, teachers, and authors who are in a position to control the content of an education activity are required to disclose to AANA, the accredited provider and the learners, all relevant financial relationships. An individual has a relevant financial relationship if he/she (or spouse/partner) has a financial relationship in any dollar amount that has occurred during the previous 12 months with a commercial interest whose products or services are discussed in the CME activity content over which the individual has control. A "commercial interest" is defined as any entity producing, marketing, re-selling, or distributing health care goods or services consumed by, or used on, patients. The ACCME Standards for Commercial Support (SCS 2.3) requires accredited providers to resolve all identified potential conflicts of interest with any individual in a position to influence and/or control the content of CME activities prior to the education activity being delivered to learners. AANA has implemented mechanisms prior to the planning and implementation of each CME activity, to identify and mitigate conflicts of interest for all individuals in a position to control the content. All Conflict of Interest Disclosures are reviewed by the Compliance Committee and provided here for the program participants.
DESCRIPTION OF SELF ASSESSMENT
The Probe self-assessment activity is offered in a web-based format. The time it will take participants to complete the Probe activity is approximately 2 minutes per question or a total of 50 minutes. The web-based format is an online interactive database that contains 25 multiple choice questions, associated images, explanations, answers, and bibliographic references. Participants will use their AANA ID and Password or be issued a username and password to access the web-based version and will be able to answer questions and obtain individual and normative group scores as well as the explanation and answers to questions. Preferred responses and references will be provided when each question has been answered.

AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ will only be awarded one time after successfully completing the 25-question bank with a pass rate of 51%.

Beginning July 1, 2011, the AMA stipulates that CME credit "should be awarded only to physicians who meet at least the minimum performance level on the assessment as established by the accredited CME provider." As an ACCME accredited CME provider, AANA established the minimum performance level on the Arthroscopy Self- Assessment Program at 51%. Per the AMA, physicians who do not achieve this minimum performance level may reset the Arthroscopy Self-Assessment Program and retake the examination as many times as necessary to achieve the minimum performance level of 51%.
CME
Your CME credits will be recorded upon successful completion of the Probe activity. A CME certificate of completion in PDF format will be sent to you via email once you have completed the full 25-question Probe activity with a pass rate of 51%.
COST, REGISTRATION and TERMS OF USE
The cost of participating in the Probe activity is based on the pricing structure set forth by AANA. A participant can register for the product one time and will receive one question per week for 25 weeks. AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ will only be awarded once the participant successfully completes all 25 questions with a pass rate of 51%.
