Experience what it’s like to attend an AANA course with highlighted lectures captured at the AANA Arthroscopic Shoulder Solutions course in October 2019.

Presenter: Joseph C. Tauro, M.D.
Topics: Massive Rotator Cuff Tears, Cases from the Jersey Shore, OrthoBiologics: What Works Where Science or Snake Oil?
Learning Objectives:
  1. When repairing RCTs, the first key element is to recognize the cuff tear pattern. Crescent tears are repaired end to bone, longitudinal tears are repaired side to side and L shaped tears require a combination of the two.
  2. The decision to perform a double row repair vs a single row repair depends on the mobility of the tendon and whether there is significant tissue loss. Only tears that mobilize easily to the tuberosity without dog ears are appropriate for a double row repair.
  3. The role of Orthobiologics such as MSC’s or PRP is still evolving, PRP can be thought of as a steroid substitute without the negative effects of steroids. MSC’s such as BMAC may help with healing but the demonstrated benefits thus far are not strong
